High-paying tech jobs have led to an increase in the cost of living across California, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area – home to tech hub, Silicon Valley. Tech jobs – including software engineers and software developers – are also incredibly coveted by fresh talent, and therefore increasingly competitive. If you aren’t feeling the California love when it comes to your dream tech job, there are other options out there. So, where do you go when California drives you out?

SEATTLE, WA You won’t mind a little year-round rain when you live in the second best tech market in the country (reported by and home to some of the biggest names in the tech industry – including Amazon, Zillow, Expedia, and Microsoft. Microsoft Atlanta, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, TechUSA, and TutorPro are among some of the tech companies hiring in Atlanta.

ONTARIO, CANADA The Kitchener-Waterloo area in Ontario, Canada is also known as the Silicon Valley of Canada for a reason. Indeed Prime, Rapid7, Pixlee, Intel, Vidyard, eSentire, and Amazon are all taking advantage of the brains of the local techies.

PHOENIX, AZ California’s more affordable next-door neighbor is quickly becoming a hot spot for tech jobs. In 2017, the amount of tech jobs increased by 188%, according to; and according to Mayor Stanton, the number of tech companies in downtown Phoenix quadrupled from 2012-2017. You’ll also find companies, like HomeAway, Rocksauce, and SXSW looking for tech specialists. Indeed, Amazon, and IBM are also taking space in this lone star state city.
